El Tobe is in his own words "By day I work as a graphic designer and by night I create odd looking illustrations...". Mainly working in the music industry designing flyers for underground events such as one off collaborations between musicians or just for an up and coming band. He lives in Northampshire but his main clients are based in London.
After a good trawl through his blog, it has become apparent that his main source of income is from his illustrations, be it from freelance work or from less common commission work externally sourced. I have however stumbled across another good site which would be well worth a visit since they commissioned his recent t-shirt designs.
His business card/identity does not do him any justice though in terms of highlighting his skills. Although the bold use of type make it very clear who he is, thus communicating an understanding of identity and type hierachy.
His work can be applied to various sectors in subculture, including skateboarding. This is something I wish to capitalise on through some of my own projects and ambitions if my talents allow it. I mean that I would like to create a collective/network of illustrators and designers who would like to do work or be involved with branding/clothing/accessories within BMXing or other urban sports.
There is already a captive audience who all strive to be individual through purchasing products that make them feel this way, which is reflected by their rejection of the more conventional sports available.
